What chemicals are safe for bees?
Hole-nesting bees are more sensitive to lawn chemicals and they may fly away from a yard that has been treated. Many hole-nesting bee species have short daily flying distances and this means they are picky about their nesting habitat. Chemicals have been developed and tested using only the behavior and needs of social honey bees as guidelines. Solitary bees with their small population sizes, short flying ranges, and use of natural materials in their nesting sites (leaves or mud can harbor chemicals) are more susceptible to lawn chemicals than honey bees.
