How many bees do I need to pollinate my yard?

It takes around 10 mason bees to fully pollinate one fruit tree or 10 leafcutter bees to pollinate a small 20' x 20' vegetable plot. It takes about 1,000 honey bees to do the same work! We suggest counting your flowering trees, plants, and natural growth to calculate the number of bees you need for pollination.

Take a look at the plants near your bee home because mason and leafcutter bees only fly in a 300 foot radius from the bee house. Female mason and leafcutter bees are pollinating for about 4-6 weeks, so consider when your plants are in bloom. If you have 2 cherry trees and 6 apples trees, they are weeks apart in blooming, target the highest number of trees - which are the apple trees.
